5 year warranties – usually covering manufacturing defects and not consumables like visors – are becoming increasingly common. Bell, Shark, Schuberth, Nolan and HJC are all offering them and more and more are having to join them to compete. Why five years? Well that’s how long most helmet manufacturers say a helmet will typically last before you should replace it. If you want a five year warranty (and why wouldn’t you?!) do check your new helmet’s got one at the time of purchasing and do read the small print because many makers want you to register before they’ll extent the standard (shorter) warranty.
