About our recommended helmet retailers

Details last updated Aug 2022.

We carefully select which retailers we recommend to our customers. Each of our recommended retailers must add something marvellous to you. They might be a total pleasure to buy from; have feedback systems where customers can rate their performance; offer an unrivalled level of choice or lowest prices – or offer great service when things go wrong and you need to return stuff.

And preferably do all of the above!

Below, we’ve listed out why you should choose one of our recommended retailers and provided quick links to jump to pages on their websites to find the latest ordering/returns info. Plus you can see at-a-glance some of their key terms and conditions, returns and delivery policies.

Disclosure: as always, should you follow one of our links and buy anything, we get a small % of the sale price at no extra cost to you – the price you see using our links is the same as going to the site directly.

Warning: all helmet returns/exchanges to all retailers need to be in as-new condition with tags and stickers attached in original packaging. If they’re not, they won’t accept them back, so only wear your new lid carefully around the house and make sure you’re entirely happy with it before removing them.

Amazon UK amazon uk logo 200px

Most of us love shopping at Amazon because it’s so easy. So we link into some helmet suppliers there too. Where possible, we’ll link only to quality retailers who score great reviews either on Amazon itself or on 3rd party review sites such as Truspilot or Google reviews. Where we drop you onto a brand page full of different retailers, we suggest you check out their ratings before you buy and only buy from the most reputable sellers. Doing that’ll help you avoid buying non-genuine helmets too.

You’ll generally find the name of the seller underneath the Buy Now button. Click the link and it’ll take you to the seller’s homepage where you’ll find their ratings.

Below you’ll find some of the Amazon sellers we link to (all scores correct at time of writing). Click the links to visit each seller’s storefront.

J&S Accessories have 30 stores across the UK and score 4.7/5 on Feefo.

MD Racing are in Yeovil and score a whopping 100% positive rating.

MSG Bike Gear score 98% and are based in Cleveland.

Nightingales are based in Rugby and score 95% on Amazon.

Quad Bike Wales are from Swansea with a 92% positive rating on Amazon.

Sportouring score 94% overall on Amazon and are based in Abercynon, Wales.

UK Good Deals score 96% on Amazon. They’re actually the Amazon arm of Ghostbikes above and are in Preston. Clicking the link will take you to their storefront on Amazon.

EUROPEAN RETAILERS

Brexit update – in the UK and ordering from Europe?

Obviously, there have been issues ordering from Europe recently since we Brexited. But the good news is that motorcycle helmets are VAT exempt. Which means if you order a helmet from Europe, you won’t get stung to pay the VAT when it’s delivered.

OK, that’s the good news. The not so good news is that it seems if you buy anything over £135 (or €150) you’ll be liable for import duty and admin fees, collectable by the courier on delivery. Though that’s only if something has been made outside the EU – which of course lots of motorbike gear is. And if your gear’s liable for duty, the courier can also lump on extra costs to cover their paperwork and duty collection costs.

In practice, being charged duty and admin fees often doesn’t happen it seems, but it’s a bit hit and miss – sometimes it does so beware. And more good news is that some European stores we use – such as Louis Moto UK below – will cover any duty if you get charged it. Hurray!

*other motorbike protective clothing is not VAT exempt.

Louis Moto louis-moto-logo

Louis has more than 80 stores in Northern Europe and has been in business in one form or another since 1939! They reckon they’re the largest motorcycle retailer in Europe and I wouldn’t disagree. They get excellent ratings (see below) and say they’ll pay or refund any VAT or customs duties if you get charged either (seems like they’re good to their word too from the reviews).

FC-MotoFC-Moto

FC-Moto are a German retailer based in Wurselen near Aachen. While their online review scores are usually a smidge lower than we’d usually look for, we include FC-Moto because they usually offer a massive range of helmets and often have low prices – so if you’re after choice and reasonable prices, they’re worth a look. They do quote 2-5 days shipping time (8-10 days during high season!) – so if you’re after your helmet quickly, you might want to look at one of our other retailers.

Here’s what happened when we ordered a helmet from FC-Moto.

US RETAILERS

Some helmets are only available from the USA – in which case we’ll give you links through to our recommended retailers over the pond. Note, if you’re outside the US and buy a US helmet to use on the road, it’ll be DOT certified so won’t be road-legal. Often, the only difference is the DOT sticker on the back of a helmet (needs to be ECE) but the law’s the law – we’ll leave it to you whether it’s worth the risk!

Revzilla Revzilla logo

Revzilla is a well-known US retailer with stores in Philadelphia, California, Denver and New York. They get excellent ratings – see the table below for the latest scores but at the time of writing that’s 9.5/10 on Reseller Ratings. While they offer free delivery in the US for orders over $39.99, there’s a variable rate for shipping to the UK and other countries (plus there may be import duty which you’ll have to pay before your parcel’s delivered). But it’s sometimes worth the extra for something that’s a bit unique in Europe.
