SHARP is an independent crash helmet safety test funded and run by the UK government that puts ECE 22.05 approved helmets through a more rigorous extra test. It's a bit like the Snell test in the US, but arguably more real-world focused. While there are lots of differing opinions about how 'real world' some of the testing is, if you're trying to find the safest helmet for your money, then SHARP is about as good as it gets. At the very least, it puts helmets through the same test so you can see their comparative performance. Check out what's involved in SHARP helmet testing here.
Choose a SHARP four or five star helmet and you're stacking the odds as much as you can in your favour.
On this page, you'll find reviews of crash helmets that have scored either four or five stars in the SHARP helmet test. Note - generally helmets that drop a star have mediocre performance in the side impact test. So if you want the safest helmet, we recommend to go for one that scores five stars.
