Do Hi Viz helmets save lives?
Difficult to say as there's little real evidence out there. One research programme by the UK's Transport and Road Research Labs (TRRL) did conclude that hi viz motorcycle clothing and the like do reduce 'detection time' of a motorcycle and rider in traffic. The same research also said that fluorescent helmets appeared to have 'a marginally beneficial effect'. That's not to say a hi viz helmet won't help - but worn alongside hi viz clothing is best. At any rate, it's probably safe to assume that wearing a hi viz or fluorescent motorcycle helmet isn't going to hurt and who knows, it may well make the difference.
